What is our Mission ?

The First Street Methodist Mission is devoted to serving people in need by providing emergency food, clothing, and infant formula in an atmosphere of respect and compassion.  Exactly what does this mean?

Webster’s defines compassion as sorrow for the sufferings or trouble of another, accompanied by an urge to help.  It is this urge to help that compels the work done at the First Street Methodist Mission.

The Mission ’s roots began in the early 1950’s when the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth recognized the need for outreach at a downtown housing community.  From this point, the church began a variety of programs designed to minister to this local community.  Over the next several decades, the services of the Mission expanded to include a sack lunch program for the homeless, an infant formula program, and grocery and clothing assistance for families in Fort Worth and the surrounding communities.  In 1990, the Mission relocated to its current facility on First Street .  In 2006, the Mission was officially renamed the First Street Methodist Mission and became its own 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

It has been through the generous financial support of many contributors and the service of countless volunteers that the Mission has been able to expand the services we provide to further assist the poor and homeless citizens of Fort Worth .
